The global Basic Body Awareness Therapy (BBAT) community has a wonderful reason to celebrate! On Friday, April 17th, the highly anticipated Swedish BK-Festivalen (BBAT Festival) took place at the vibrant Ungdomens Hus in Malmö, Sweden.
The energetic event brought together approximately fifty enthusiastic physiotherapists eager to deepen their practice, share clinical insights, and connect with peers in the field of mind-body healthcare.

A Rich Day of Collaborative Learning
Coordinated by an expert teaching group, the festival offered a comprehensive, fast-paced itinerary designed to translate clinical BBAT methodology into experiential action. Over the course of the day, attendees participated in 11 dynamic parallel workshops, community networking breaks, and a centralized keynote lecture.
The specialized workshops covered a profound range of contemporary clinical applications, including:
Mindful Movement: Hälso Tai Chi, Tai Chi Korta Yang, and targeted meditation sessions.
Clinical Populations: BBAT applications for women’s health (including an inspiring look at BBAT in Ethiopia) and specialized focuses on personality disorders.
Practical Integration: Workshops dedicated to utilizing BBAT as a preparation for physical activity, mastering the BAS MQ-E assessment tool, exploring "BBAT Massage," and strengthening personal boundaries through structural balance.
A major highlight of the afternoon was the central lecture: "The Body as a Starting Point for Self-Awareness" (Kroppen som utgångspunkt för självmedvetandet), which beautifully anchored the day’s practical movements back into core psychotherapeutic and physiological theory.

Fostering Community and Connection
Beyond the movement mats and lectures, the festival emphasized the vital importance of professional community. Throughout the day, lively fika (coffee, fresh rolls, and cakes) and lunch breaks gave attendees the ideal environment to mingle, exchange local clinic strategies, and forge long-lasting collaborative partnerships.
The organizing team extended their gratitude to everyone who attended, noting:
"Together, we created a truly wonderful day."
The success of the Malmö festival shines as a bright reminder of how active, passionate, and unified the European BBAT network remains.
