Education & Training in Basic Body Awareness Therapy (BBAT)
Our BBAT education and training programs offer structured levels and master classes for physiotherapists and health professionals. Learn from certified teachers in an international network committed to excellence in Body Awareness Therapy.
The International Association of Teachers in Basic Body Awareness Therapy (IATBBAT) offers an invaluable platform for physiotherapists passionate about advancing their knowledge and skills in Basic Body Awareness Therapy (BBAT). As a global organization, IATBBAT ensures the highest standards in teaching and guiding BBAT, promoting its clinical and pedagogical implementation across 15 countries and 4 continents. BBAT, a person-centered, process-oriented, and health-directed modality, is supported by extensive research demonstrating its benefits for mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, posttraumatic stress, schizophrenia, and eating disorders, as well as for musculoskeletal issues like fibromyalgia, arthritis, and chronic pain.

Each year, IATBBAT hosts a Summer Seminar in August and additional theory seminars, designed to inspire and train members, BBAT teachers. In addition, the members of IATBBAT organize training courses for physiotherapists around the four competence levels of BBAT, from level 1 to level 4. These events focus on advancing both clinical practices and the theoretical framework of BBAT, providing participants with unique opportunities to deepen their understanding of movement awareness and its impact on health. Through interactive learning, attendees explore BBAT’s holistic approach, which integrates physical, mental, and relational aspects of health using a phenomenological treatment methodology.
BBAT’s methodology emphasizes health-related learning through movement awareness. Participants engage in a transformative journey, encompassing theoretical insights, practical skill training, and experiential learning. By reflecting on personal movement habits and exploring relational resources, physiotherapists gain tools to support their patients and foster personal and professional growth.
