The University of Almería proudly celebrated the graduation of students from the Master of Physiotherapy in Basic Body Awareness Methodology

Spain, December 2024

The University of Almería (UAL) proudly celebrated the graduation of a new cohort of students from the Master of Physiotherapy in Basic Body Awareness Methodology (BBAM) program this December 2024. The BBAM program, internationally recognized for its emphasis on movement quality and mental health physiotherapy, equips students with specialized skills in promoting holistic well-being through therapeutic movement.

The BBAM program at UAL, developed to meet the growing need for qualified mental health physiotherapists, builds on decades of academic and clinical expertise. Originating in Norway in 2003 at Bergen University College, the program transitioned to UAL in 2017 to further its international reach. This year's graduates reflect the program's global appeal, representing countries across Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas.

Over the course of a year, students engaged in a 60 ECTS curriculum combining online learning with hands-on training. They mastered methodologies rooted in Basic Body Awareness Therapy (BBAT), addressing physical, psychological, and psychosocial dimensions of movement. Graduates completed rigorous clinical practice, theoretical studies, and personal training in BBAM, culminating in individual and group physiotherapy clinical practice and a final project.

The ceremony was marked by heartfelt speeches from faculty members and students, highlighting the program’s transformative impact on personal and professional growth. "This program has not only enhanced our professional competencies but also deepened our understanding of how movement connects to emotions and mental health," shared one graduate.
